Bluff StrOKES 2018 PAINT OUT
See dubuque through artists' eyes!
Sixty plein air (in open air) artists will paint Dubuque scenes Sunday, Oct. 7 - Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018. At the end of the week we will display the paintings in historic Steeple Square in downtown Dubuque. We will award $10,000 in prize money and the finished work will be ready to sell. Last year we sold over 200 paintings!
Our 2018 Juror - Nancie King Mertz
Nancy will demonstrate plein air painting techniques Saturday, Oct 13 at Steeple Square - time TBA
Bluff Strokes HOME base - Steeple Square
A Dubuque icon since 1867, the former home of St. Mary’s Parish is being restored. Steeple and stained glass windows restoration are in progress. The former church, now the Steeple Square Community Event Center, will be home base for Bluff Strokes.
Special Guest - Rose Frantzen
Demo and Critique for artists - Wednesday evening, October 10: Time TBA
Rose's demo will focus on including a figure in a landscape painting. She will be available afterwards to critique works brought in by participating artists.
ready to paint?
Registration for Bluff Strokes 2018 has been closed and we have a waiting list. If you are a registered artist and find you will not be able to attend, please let us know so that another artist may fill your spot!
Watch the artists, come to our sale!
Each artist will select his or her favored scenes to paint: river overlooks, historic buildings, rural landscapes, the Arboretum, and more. Watch them paint during the week, then view (and purchase) their artwork at our Friday Patron Preview Party (entry ticket required), or our Saturday public Sale. Last year, prices ranged from $100 to $2200 and averaged $400. For some customers, this was the first time they'd purchased a work of original art.
