In this workshop, Michael Broshar will lead a study on how to incorporate figures in Plein air painting. We will begin with a brief study of the figure, and how to plan for figures in a painting, considering scale, proportion, relationship to the overall composition, and level of detail. We will develop quick sketches to use as a reference, both initially in pencil and and then in paint media. This work will be done in the studio on the morning of the first day.
We will plan to visit the Farmer’s Market in the late morning in order to develop a number of figure sketches. In the afternoon, we will use these sketches to develop figures in a Plein air painting.
On the second day, we will begin with a critique session, followed by an outdoor sketching and painting session.
All outside activities will be weather permitting.
