Pride + Protest: Zine’s as Art and Social Movement
24 May 2025
1-3 pm
Bluff Strokes Art Center, 1201 Locust St.
In this is a two-hour workshop, taught by artist and University of Iowa Professor Elizabeth Rodriguez Fielder, you will learn how to make zines and try out a variety of book forms: one-page books and pamphlet stitch books. While learning the craft of making, you will also learn about the history of zines and how they emerged alongside social movement activism, especially activism from LGBTQ+ communities. This workshop invites you to generate words that speak to our contemporary moment or to curate others’ words and images to make a unique art object. We will provide materials for inspiration, or you’re invited to bring your own pictures or writing from home.
This is an all skills level workshop for the LGBTQ+ community, allies and anyone from the community looking to learn more about this art form.
Refreshments will be provided and scholarships are available. Please contact S. Eliot Steuer at s.eliot.steuer@dbqpride.org to apply for a scholarship.
